This Weekend’s Hashtag Project: #WHPsolocolor

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

The goal this weekend is to create photos organized around a single color. Some tips to get you started: Walk through your home and find objects that are all the same color, lay them out neatly and photograph them on a white background; grab a friend and pose them in front of a wall that matches the color of their clothes for a color-coordinated portrait; or go on a photo walk and let your attention be drawn by a single color along your way.

Some ideas to get you started: If you’ll be spending time with your mom for Mother’s Day be sure to take a portrait of her and share a favorite moment in the caption; if you are a mom, take a photo of yourself with your kids, either in a warm embrace holding hands or sharing a favorite activity; or feel free to get creative when trying to capture what motherly love means to you!

The goal this weekend is to capture silhouette photographs of friends or family members. Be sure to update to the latest version of Instagram so you can share who is in the silhouette by adding people to your photograph! Some tips to get you started: Make sure there is plenty of light coming from behind your subject to create the perfect silhouette, tap on the brightest part of the scene to set the exposure, use golden hour to your advantage—sunrise and sunset are the best times to take silhouette portraits.

This weekend several countries around the world will celebrate Arbor Day, a holiday dedicated to planting and caring for trees. In honor of this 141-year-old tradition, the goal this weekend is to capture photographs through trees. Some tips to get you started: look for sunlight breaking or fog rolling through trees, beautiful scenery like a beach or mountains just beyond tree branches, or try your hand at portraits of a friend standing next to tall tree trunks.
