Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPnotquitea

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

This weekend’s tag was #WHPnotquitea, which asked participants to take photos or videos in the style of their favorite Instagrammers. Can you guess who inspired them? Visit their profiles to see their captions and find out!

Every Monday we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPnotquitea

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

This weekend, Instagram celebrates its third birthday! We wouldn’t be where we are today if we weren’t made up of a community as creative and strong as all of you. To mark the occasion, we want to share the love by having you share who you love to follow.

The goal this weekend is to take photos or videos in the styles of your favorite Instagrammers. Some tips to get you started: Look through your favorite Instagrammers’ profiles and try to figure out what it is you love about their photos or videos. Once you’ve got an idea of it, try to take your own photo in that style, but don’t be afraid to put your own spin on things. Finally, be sure to call them out in your post right after the hashtag! (Example: #WHPnotquitea @username).

Above, you’ll see our own attempts at taking #WHPnotquitea photos around the office in the style of Instagrammers we’ve featured in the past. You can also get an idea for this project by looking at these two photos by @servoss (left side) that was inspired by the style of London Instagrammer @missunderground (right side).

PROJECT RULES: Please only add the #WHPnotquitea hashtag to photos or videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs or videos to the project. Any image or video taken then tagged over the weekend is eligible to be featured right here Monday morning!

#WhoIFollow: Guatemala’s @jpanleu

This weekend, Instagram celebrates its third birthday! To mark the event, throughout the week we’re sharing a special series of #whoifollow features asking Instagrammers to share their favorite person to follow. For this third and final installment, we’ve asked Jose Pablo Anleu (@jpanleu) from Guatemala to share his.

25-year-old Guatemalan Instagrammer Jose Pablo Anleu (@jpanleu)—who celebrates his birthday just a day after ours—first started using Instagram after getting his first smartphone in early 2012. Professionally, he works as a photographer and filmmaker with a speciality in portraiture. “My passion is connecting with a subject through photography,” he says.

Among his chief influences, Jose lists his friends—a small but strong community of Instagrammers in the nation’s capital, Guatemala City. “We are a tight knit group who enjoy exploring, days in the woods, nights by a fireplace,” he explains. “Each day more and more friends are getting into Instagram,” and they plan to host their first InstaMeet in Guatemala this year.

Jose says he can’t even list all of the Instagrammers who inspire him, but for his follow feature he calls out Puerto Rican photographer Fernando Samalot (@simonebirch). “He has this eye for things, turning the mundane into magical.” Calling out the interplay between Fernando’s photos and their captions, Jose explains, “What I love the most ever since I started following him is that his Instagram feed is not only a collection of beautiful pictures, but a journey of his life and how he’s evolving as a person day after day.”

For more from Jose and Fernando, be sure to follow @jpanleu and @simonebirch on Instagram.

#WhoIFollow: Barcelona’s @isabelitavirtual

This weekend, Instagram celebrates its third birthday! To mark the event, throughout the week we’re sharing a special series of #whoifollow features asking Instagrammers to share their favorite person to follow. For this second installment, we’ve asked Isabel Martinez (@isabelitavirtual) from Barcelona to share hers.

Isabel Martinez (@isabelitavirtual) began using Instagram in 2011. Working as a copywriter in Barcelona, Spain, Isabel says her work influences the scenes she captures: “I love sharing stories, playing with mystery and color. I usually add a concept that changes or gives a twist to the image.” In the last year, @vogueitalia invited Isabel to participate in an exhibition alongside professional photographers, and Spanish designer @officialdelpozo brought her to New York to document Fashion Week. “I had never though of myself as a photographer, but that changed a few months ago. I realized that sometimes intuition is more important than knowledge.”

Isabel draws inspiration from Instagrammers she follows all around the world—from the connections she makes and the different points of view she encounters. Her favorite person to follow is Raphaël Liais du Rocher (@raphaelliais) of Morocco. “Rafa is the kind of person that wants to evolve and experiment on Instagram, and that’s something very important to me. His personal view on Morocco is always inspiring.” For more from Isabel and Raphaël, be sure to follow @isabelitavirtual and @raphaelliais on Instagram.

#WhoIFollow: Japan’s @terajiro

This weekend, Instagram celebrates its third birthday! To mark the event, throughout the week we’re sharing a special series of #whoifollow features asking Instagrammers to share their favorite person to follow. For this first installment, we’ve asked Kazumi (@terajiro) from Japan to share hers.

Kazumi (@terajiro) began using Instagram in October 2010, just a couple weeks after the app first launched. Through Instagram photos and videos, she documents her daily life in Gunma (群馬県), a prefecture of Japan just a few hours northwest of Tokyo. In addition to snapshots from in and around Gunma, you’ll find that Kazumi’s photo series features spoons of all different shapes and sizes. She even runs a website dedicated to her work with spoons, spoonship.com.

Kazumi follows her friends in and around Japan, but over the past few years she has found inspiration in the photos and videos shared by the people she follows all around the world. Her favorite person to follow is @d0125, an Instagrammer based in China. “His photos are very quiet,” Kazumi says. “But I feel some story in them and I love his frame of reference.”

To see more from these two, be sure to follow @terajiro and @d0125 on Instagram.
