Twisting and Tumbling with Parkour Athlete @pashatheboss

To see more photos and videos of Pasha’s parkour moves all around the world, follow @pashatheboss on Instagram.

“You have to understand I trained for this for nine years,” says Latvian parkour athlete Pasha Petkuns (@pashatheboss). “If you see my videos on Instagram, don’t try to repeat them straightaway.”

Pasha was inspired by watching online videos of parkour, a form of street gymnastics. “It’s a pretty cheap sport. All you need is your shoes.” But parkour can be dangerous and requires extraordinary discipline and physical strength. “I never get serious injuries because I practice everything step-by-step and do physical strength training.”

“If you want to start, start slowly,” Pasha says. “Gymnastics gyms are great for beginners because everything is soft and safe.”

Chronicling the Journeys of Traveling Rodeo Voice @stevegoedert

To see more from Steve’s travels to every corner of America, follow @stevegoedert on Instagram.

“I grew up in a rural part of northern California surrounded by cattle ranches,” says traveling rodeo announcer Steve Goedert (@stevegoedert). “I wanted to be a saddle bronc rider, but never was very good.”

While his profession reflects his love for cattle and ranching, Steve didn’t necessarily set out to become a sought-after rodeo announcer. “I spent a lot of time at the local livestock auction yard and decided I wanted to become an auctioneer,” Steve says of his earlier years. “I decided I needed to be a better public speaker to become a better auctioneer.” To improve, he started announcing local rodeos free of charge. People noticed and began offering to pay him.

These days, Steve’s on the road up to 40 weekends out of the year, and his photos and videos on Instagram chronicle his travels to every corner of the United States.

Surfing in the Clouds with @hisarahlee

For more of Sarah Lee’s atmospheric shots underwater and above, follow @hisarahlee.

“Duck diving”—the act of riding waves beneath the surf—has found a home in the incredible, ethereal photos by Hawai’i Instagrammer Sarah Lee (@hisarahlee). “One day I was out body-surfing and I saw the way the waves broke like this cool cloud in the sky, but underwater,” she says. “I thought, ‘the closest thing to flying could be diving under the waves.’”

Most of Sarah’s photos feature other female aquatic athletes, who are also her close friends. In part, she sees her subjects as extensions of herself. Growing up in Hawai’i, Sarah spent almost every moment in the water.

“The ocean is a force of nature you cannot control. That’s what I’ve enjoyed most about it,” she says. “The shot is always different.”

Going Behind the scenes at Wimbledon 2014

The lawns have been manicured, the flowers watered and players warmed up for Wimbledon 2014, the grand slam tennis tournament in England.

The 41 mown grass courts will soon feel the thud of tennis shoes from 480 players, and 38,500 daily visitors are expected descend on the All England Lawn Tennis Club grounds in Southwest London over the next two weeks.

As well as being one of four major tennis grand slams throughout the year, Wimbledon has a special attraction for its quintessentially British feel—particularly the consumption of strawberries and cream and Pimm’s drinks. It is estimated 28,000 kilograms of strawberries, 7,000 liters of cream and 200,000 glasses of Pimm’s will be consumed over the two-week event. Also in keeping with the traditions of the event, players adhere to an all-white dress code, and staff wear navy and green uniforms.

Last year, Andy Murray (@andymurray) became the first British player in 77 years to win the men’s singles championship at Wimbledon when he beat Siberia’s Novak Djokovic (@djokernole).

"I can’t wait to get started on Monday," he says. "I love playing at Wimbledon, and it’s an honor to open The Championships, I’ll give it everything I’ve got."

Victoria Azarenka (@vichka35) is also preparing for The Championships. “I’m so excited to be back at Wimbledon,” she says. “Before the tournament begins you can catch me at Wimbe village, the Player’s Party, and, oh, it’s strawberries and cream season! But when the tournament starts, I’m all business.”

This year, Instagrammers were given access to the lawns ahead of play, and tennis stars have been sharing behind the scenes from Wimbledon in the lead up to The Championships. For a behind-the-scenes look, check out the following accounts on Instagram:

To view more photos and videos from the tournament, explore the Stade Roland Garros and Le Roland Garros location pages.

The Roland Garros (@rolandgarros) tennis tournament, also known as the French Open, has begun with 32 first-round singles matches starting on Sunday. As one of four major grand slams held throughout the year in professional tennis, the clay court tournament has been held in Paris since 1891. The competition is named after Roland Garros, a French aviation pioneer who was a big fan of the eponymous stadium.

Players will compete for the singles and doubles crowns over the next two weeks. The winners of the men’s and women’s singles in 2014 will each receive a €1,650,000 prize, a 10% increase on last year’s awards.
