@mrubee’s Instagram Recovery

In May of this year, Brooklyn photographer Michael Rubenstein (@mrubee) rode his Triumph motorcycle from NYC to St. Petersburg, Florida, for a friend’s wedding. On his way back home, he was struck by an SUV traveling nearly 60 mph. Michael flew 85 feet through the air, broke his shoulder, ankle, nose, eight ribs, and collapsed a lung.

After nearly three weeks in Shock Trauma in Baltimore, a handful of surgeries, two more weeks at NYU’s acute rehab center, and a month at a friend’s (@paralx’s) apartment, @mrubee was finally fit enough to climb the three flights of stairs to his apartment where he continues to recover. He captured every moment, from the road trip to the hospitals to back home on Instagram, explaining:

I’m a photographer… I can’t work but I can document what’s in front of me and the only thing that’s been in front of me for the past three months has been my broken foot. So that’s what I photograph. People seem to like it.
