Today, millions of people around the world celebrate Victory Day, the day when Nazi Germany surrendered in 1945. Due to time differences, the holiday is celebrated on May 8 in most parts of the world and May 9 in the former Soviet states.

The holiday remains extremely significant in the former Soviet region due to the gravity of World War II: an estimated 28,000,000 people were killed in the Soviet Union alone. Regardless of faith, political affiliation or nationality, people come together to honor their war veterans. Hundreds of military parades complete with armored vehicles, fireworks, choreographed marching and speeches will be held in various cities.
