To commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969, this month has been proclaimed as LGBT Pride Month. Pride events — including many parades — were held this month around the world in order to recognize LGBT people, promote equal rights, and to take a positive stance against discrimination and violence.
