Today, Space Shuttle Discovery, atop a 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, will do a flyover of the Washington, DC area on its way to the National Air and Space Museum. The aircraft is expected to fly near a variety of landmarks in the metropolitan area, including the National Mall and Reagan National Airport, between 10:00 and 11:00am EDT.*

We’re excited to see the photos Instagrammers in the DC area share as Discovery flies overhead. NASA Goddard (@nasagoddard) will be sharing photos from DC, with the tag #spottheshuttle, and is encouraging onlookers to do the same.

In DC? Check out nasa.gov for a map of the best sites to snap photos of the shuttle to share with the Instagram community!

*The exact route and timing of the flight depend on weather and operational constraints.
